Why is land drainage pipe perforated?
Both single-wall and twinwall drainage pipes can be perforated. These small holes spaced at regular intervals allow excess water in the soil to evenly percolate through the wall into the pipe across a large area.
Not all land drainage pipe is perforated, however. Non-perforated pipe will be used to carry excess water from the extracted area to a drain or watercourse across land that, while not waterlogged, is unsuitable for attenuation.
