Fittings at Drainfast are designed to work with a wide range of pipe sizes commonly used in underground drainage systems. The flexible fittings accommodate pipe diameters from as small as 35–45 mm up to large sizes like 295–320mm.

Common intermediate sizes include 100–115mm, 121–137mm, 144–160mm and 170–192mm. Standard underground drainage systems typically use 110mm and 160mm pipes, making these fittings suitable for both domestic and commercial use.

Underground drainage fittings are typically made from durable materials designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions and long-term use. Common materials include high-quality plastics like PVC and polyethene, which offer excellent resistance to corrosion, chemicals and moisture.

Flexible rubber compounds are often used for seals and adaptors to provide watertight connections and accommodate slight pipe movements. Additionally, some underground drainage pipe fittings may incorporate metal components such as stainless steel or galvanised steel clamps to ensure secure and strong joints that will enhance the overall system reliability and longevity.

Using them above ground is generally not recommended because they may degrade at a faster rate due to sunlight and temperature changes. Underground drainage fittings are designed specifically for below-ground use, where they are protected from UV exposure and weather conditions. For above-ground applications, fittings made from materials rated for external use, such as UV-resistant PVC or specialised above-ground drainage products, should be used instead.

The maximum installation depth for underground fittings varies depending on the material, soil conditions and any local regulations. Generally, PVC underground drainage fittings can be buried anywhere up to 3 to 4 meters deep, while heavier-duty materials like cast iron or ductile iron can handle greater depths.

It’s important to consult manufacturer guidelines and local building codes to ensure proper depth and avoid damage from soil pressure or other external forces.
