Perforated Land Drainage Coils

Land drainage coils are used to remove excess surface water from soil, preventing waterlogging and improving ground stability. They are usually installed below ground level and channel water away from fields, construction sites, gardens and playing fields. Land drainage is ideal for encouraging crop growth, stabilising building sites and protecting structures. 

Land drainage coils are typically designed to be flexible and durable, so are often made from high-grade plastics such as polyethylene. All our land drainage products are manufactured using polyethylene, making them durable, low-maintenance, flexible and lightweight.

Single wall land drainage pipe coils feature a single layer design made of corrugated plastic. They are cost-effective and easy to install, but not suitable for especially heavy duty applications. Twin wall coils include a smooth inner wall, which improves water flow, reduces the likelihood of blockages and makes them stronger. It also, however, makes them harder to handle and more costly. All our land drainage coils are single walled to maximise ease of installation, cost-effectiveness and performance. 

Filters are not always necessary in land drainage, but can help reduce the likelihood of blockages, especially in heavy duty agricultural operations. It is possible to buy land drainage coils with a geotextile wrap that serves as an integrated filter. 

To select the right coil diameter, you should consider a few key factors: 

• Volume of water to be drained - more water will require a larger diameter coil 
• Size of the drainage area - a broader area will mean more water to be drained 
• Soil type and drainage rate - denser soils will have slower natural drainage, and larger diameters may be beneficial to encourage water to flow away 
• Installation depth and layout of the system - deeper or larger systems may require bigger coils 
• Future capacity requirements - upsizing gives you extra capacity in case of heavy rain or future expansions 

Typically, land drainage coils are installed at between 600mm and 1,200mm in depth. The exact depth will vary based on installation environment and drainage requirements. Agricultural drainage is usually installed at a greater depth to improve drainage around the root zone.
